What is an Arborist?

If you have a green thumb and a love for trees, you have probably heard of the term arboriculture. This is the study, cultivation, and management of trees, shrubs, and other plants. Arboriculture helps to teach people how to maintain proper health for their trees in different environments such as urban, suburban, and natural.

The key points of arboriculture include the following:

Tree Care and Maintenance:

Through trimming, fertilizing, and preventing disease we can properly care for our trees.

Tree Planting and Species Selection:

When planting trees, it is important to select specific trees for specific environments. Common variables include soil, weather, and space availability which will determine if a tree is a good fit.

Research and Education:

As trees continue to grow there is so much more out there to learn about them. Arboriculture involves researching and educating our communities and arborists to advance the proper practice of tree care and management.

Now that we have covered Arboriculture, what is an arborist?

An arborist is someone who specializes in the proper care and maintenance of trees. They are passionate individuals whose goal is to spread awareness for tree care.

The key points of an arborist include the following:

Training and Certification:

Arborists must undergo extensive training to become professionals in their field. They must thoroughly understand the education of arboriculture and the biological studies that go into the trees. On top of their certification, another way to advance your arboriculture knowledge is to pursue certifications from organizations like the ISA. The ISA stands for International Society of Arboriculture. The Tree Masters are proud members of this organization.

Assessing and Diagnosing:

One skill of arborists that stands out from other tree care professionals is the ability to diagnose the health conditions of trees. They are trained to identify unique pest infestations, structural weaknesses, diseases, and other stressors for the trees that your landscaper wouldn’t be trained in.

The Tree Masters are experts in pruning, trimming, removing, and stump grinding. With over a decade of experience, we know your trees, but we also know the people of the island. Tree Masters have relationships with many skilled arborists on the island. If you are interested in hiring the Tree Masters for a service but need an arborist on site that is no problem at all! We got you and your trees covered.
